The forefront of built environment sustainability.
The challenge was to create a net-zero housing development offering fifteen free-standing homes in the quickly developing Emeryville/Oakland border without compromising quality and sustainability, the homes offered an affordable solution in response to the housing shortage in one of the most expensive and saturated markets in the world.
Placing emphasis on 4 of our now 5 pillars, we were able to create one of the most sustainable and energy-efficient residential developments in the United States.

Energy
Net Zero Communities

Placed in the sun-heavy parking lot, solar panels produce enough renewable energy for the entire development, while providing convenient vehicle shelter.

2
Water
Resource Conservation

Our parking lot features a permeable surface that allows rainwater runoff to collect in an underground, stone-filled basin. It then slowly percolates into ground water sources instead of being diverted into the city's drainage infrastructure.

Enduring Design

Designed to feel spacious without wasting space, a comfortably open floor plan leads into secluded garden featuring sustainable wood panels.

Shared Purpose

The Manhattan, designed as a live-work unit, has flexible workspaces, including a cafe on the ground floor, with living and dinning space on the second and third floor.
